This presentation outlines the food scrap ban that went into effect on July 1, 2020 (Vermont Universal Recycling Law). We’ll discuss the details and exceptions to the law, explain the services the Alliance provides as well as answer your solid waste questions.

Paula Kamperman
Outreach Program Manager @Bennington County Solid Waste Alliance

Paula is the Outreach Program Manager for the Alliance and provides technical assistance to businesses, schools, and organizations to help manage their solid waste disposal and educate the public about waste reduction and recycling. She has completed the UVM Extension’s Master Composter Course as well as training in the areas of e-scrap collection, battery, and mercury products recycling within transfer stations. Paula also maintains the online presence of the Alliance through Facebook, Google and Youtube.

Michael Batcher
Solid Waste Program Manager @Bennington County Solid Waste Alliance

Michael Batcher has been the Solid Waste Program Manager managing the contract between the Bennington County Solid Waste Alliance and the Bennington County Regional Commission since 2015. He is trained as an ecologist and planner and has more than 30 years’ experience in ecological field studies and analyses, land use planning, and environmental planning, working in both the public and private sectors. At BCRC he also works on town plans, town hazard mitigation plans, emergency management and natural resource and planning studies. He received a Master of City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania in 1980 and a Master of Science in botany from the University of Vermont in 1990.
